Russian police prevent 1.5 bln rbl theft by hackers from banks
MOSCOW, Nov 9 (PRIME) -- The Russian Interior Ministry has detained hackers and prevented a theft of more than 1.5 billion rubles from banks, spokeswoman Yelena Alekseyeva said Monday.
The group’s member was able not only to commit target attacks on processing centers of some banks, but also world systems of exchange of inter-bank financial messages. The perpetrator created and registered own payment system up to all international standards.
“The criminal gang has discredited the world’s largest payment systems that allowed them to commit multi-million thefts. Besides, the perpetrators specialized on ‘cracking’ automated-teller machines, using specially crafted technical devices and modifying software of terminals,” Alekseyeva said.
The criminals, who used malware to attack remote banking services, tried to break into financial companies in Russia, the U.S., as well in Europe and Asia.
Searches revealed documents proving their involvement in the crimes. The detainees are now confessing.
